Two Parties, One Monopoly – CIA

Both main political parties in the United States (Democrats and Republicans) disagree in some areas, but both political parties support clandestine operations using the CIA to overthrow governments in favor of US interests above the interests of the local population.

Formation and Growth of the CIA

During World War II, U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt authorized the creation of an intelligence agency modeled after the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6). This led to the creation of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS).

On September 20th, 1945, shortly after the end of World War II, the US President at the time, Harry Truman signed an executive order dissolving the OSS. By October 1945 its functions had been divided between the departments of State and the department of War. Truman then established the National Intelligence Authority in January 1946, which was the direct predecessor of the CIA. The signing of the National Security Act of 1947 established both the National Security Council and the Central Intelligence Agency.

Later, The Central Intelligence Agency Act of 1949 was passed which allowed the CIA to use confidential financial and administrative procedures which exempted it from many of the usual restrictions on the use of federal funds. The act also exempted the CIA from having to disclose the “organization, functions, officials, titles, salaries, or numbers of personnel employed.” It also created a program called “PL-110” to handle defectors and other “essential aliens” outside normal immigration procedures, as well as give those people cover stories and economic support.

The Act was challenged in 1972 with the Supreme Court case “United States v. Richardson”, in which Richardson made the claim that the Act conflicted with clause of Article I, Section 9 of the US Constitution, which states that “No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law; and a regular Statement and Account of Receipts and Expenditures of all public Money shall be published from time to time.” The Supreme Court under Chief Justice Warren Burger found that Richardson, as a taxpayer, lacked sufficient standing to argue the case and was subsequently dismissed.

After the official establishment of the Central Intelligency Agency under Democratic President Harry Truman, they immediately went to work.

In 1949, through a CIA-backed coup, Colonel Adib Shish-akli rose to power in Syria. He would be overthrown 4 years later by the military, Ba’athists, and communists. The CIA and MI6 started funding factions within the military. CIA Agent Rocky Stone, who had played a role in the Iranian Revolution, was working at the Damascus embassy as a diplomat, but was actually the station chief.

Syrian officers on the CIA payroll quickly appeared on television stating that they had received money from “corrupt and sinister Americans” “in an attempt to overthrow the legitimate government of Syria.” Syrian forces surrounded the embassy and Agent Stone quickly confessed and was subsequently kicked out of the country, The first American diplomat expelled from an arab nation. This strengthened ties between Syria and Egypt, helping to set the stage for the United Arab Republic, which from 1958-1961 briefly saw Syria and Egypt merge into one country.

Former CIA officer Miles Copeland Jr. admits to orchestrating and planning the 1949 Coup in Syria.

More recently, officially since 2011, CIA operatives and U.S. special operations troops have trained and armed nearly 10,000 rebel fighters at a cost of $1 billion a year in Syria. The CIA has been sending weapons to anti-government rebels in Syria since at least 2012.

These weapons have been falling into hands of extremist groups such as the Free Syrian Army, Al-Nusra Front and Daesh (ISIS). This included training, ammunition, guided missiles, and salaries for rebel fighters. Around February 2017, the CIA was instructed to halt military aid to the Free Syrian Army (FSA). The hold on aid was not related to the transition from Obama’s administration to Trump’s, but rather due to issues faced by the FSA which has mostly been defeated in Syria.

Five FSA groups have confirmed that they received funding and military support from an source called “MOM operations room.” Several countries besides the U.S. had also contributed to the funding of the Free Syrian Army. These countries include Turkey, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. On April 6, 2017, Al-Jazeera reported that funding to the FSA was partially restored. Based on information provided by two FSA sources, the new military operation room will receive its funds from the coalition “Friends of Syria”. The coalition consists of members from the U.S, Turkey, Western Europe, and Gulf states.

Former Deputy Secretary of the CIA Mike Morell under President Obama from 2010-2013 gave an interview in August of 2016 where he stated that the CIA and the US needs to kill Russians and kill Syrians in Syria in order to “Scare Assad” and make Putin pay the price.

John Foster Dulles (US Secretary of State under President Eisenhower) with his law firm of Sullivan & Cromwell negotiated land giveaways to the United Fruit Company in Guatemala and Honduras. John Foster Dulles’ brother, Allen Dulles (CIA director under Eisenhower), also did legal work for United Fruit and sat on its board of directors. In an obvious conflict of interest, the Dulles brothers as well as the law firm Sullivan & Cromwell were on the United Fruit payroll for thirty-eight years.

In 1951, Jacobo Arbenz was the democratically elected president of Guatemala. Once elected, he confiscated some unused land operated by the United Fruit Company and compensated the company for the land. The United Fruit Company then started a propaganda campaign to portray Arbenz as a puppet of an international conspiracy and hired about 300 mercenaries who sabotaged trains and oil supplies throughout the country.

In 1953, the CIA initiated a coup in Iran to overthrow the democratically elected Prime Minister of Iran, Dr. Mohammad Mosaddegh. Once overthrown, the US installed the Shah, a Pro US dictator. This was in response to Mosaddegh nationalizing the Anglo-Iranian Oil company, later to become BP (British Petroleum).

In August 2013, 60 years after the coup, the American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) finally admitted that it was in charge of both the planning and execution of the coup, including the bribing of Iranian politicians, security, and high-ranking military officials, as well as distributing pro-coup propaganda.

According to the CIA’s declassified documents and records, some of the most feared and prominent mobsters in Tehran were paid by the CIA to stage pro-Shah riots. Other CIA-paid mercenaries were bussed in to Tehran, and took over the streets of the city. Mosaddegh was arrested, tried and convicted of treason by the Shah’s military court. On December 21st 1953, he was sentenced to three years in prison, then placed under house arrest for the remainder of his life.

This CIA coup enforced US policies in Iran, against the will of it’s people. This had blowback 25 years later when the Shah was overthrown in a revolution in 1979 and replaced with Ayatolla Ruhollah Khomeini, the 1st Supreme Leader of Iran under this new government.

The US under the authority of John F. Kennedy invaded Cuba using a CIA-sponsored paramilitary group known as Brigade 2506, on April 18, 1961 (Known as the “Bay of Pigs” invasion) which ended after 3 days. 114 people from the invading force were killed, 1,189 invaders were taken prisoner. A few of them managed to escape to U.S. ships, waiting offshore. The exiles were quickly tried, a few were executed. The rest were sentenced to thirty years in prison for treason. These exiles were released after 20 months in exchange for $53 million dollars worth of food and medicine.

In 1962 the US Joint Chiefs of Staff was looking for a pretext to invade Cuba. They drew up a list of possible false flag attacks that could be implemented to achieve this goal. This was the infamous “Operation Northwoods” document, which was then rejected and later declassified in 1997. The Northwoods document describes plan for the use of fake MIGs (Russian aircraft) posing as Cuban MIGS which included sinking boats of Cuban refugees, hijacking planes, blowing up a U.S. ship, and even orchestrating violent terrorism in U.S. cities. The plan was developed to fool the American public and the international community into supporting a war in Cuba to overthrow Fidel Castro and his soviet friendly government.

In 1970 a socialist candidate, Salvador Allende, was elected president of Chile. The CIA wanted to incite a military coup Allende’s inauguration, but the chief of staff of the Chile’s army, General Rene Schneider, opposed this. The CIA subsequently planned, along with some in the Chilean military, to assassinate Schneider. This plot did not succeed and Allende took office. President Nixon then ordered the CIA to create a coup climate: “Make the economy scream,” he said.

What followed were multiple incidents of guerrilla warfare, arson, bombing, sabotage and terrorism. US Corporations such as ITT and others with Chilean holdings sponsored strikes and demonstrations. On September 11th, 1973 Allende mysteriously died. At that time Henry Kissinger, U.S. Secretary of State, said the following regarding Chile: “I don’t see why we need to stand by and watch a country go communist because of the irresponsibility of its own people.”

From 1957 to 1986 Haiti was under the control of Papa Doc Duvalier and later by his son Jean-Claude “Baby Doc” Duvalier. During that time their mercenary force killed between 30,000 and 100,000 people. Millions of dollars in CIA subsidies flowed into Haiti during that time, mainly to suppress popular movements, William Blum made the claim that most American military aid to Haiti was covertly channeled through Israel.

Sometime between 1959 and 1961 the CIA initiated Project Tiger, a program of dropping South Vietnamese agents into North Vietnam to gather intelligence. These were failures; the Deputy Chief for Project Tiger, Captain Do Van Tien, admitted that he was an agent for North Vietnam.

After the failure of Project Tiger, the Pentagon (under the authority of President Lyndon B. Johnson) wanted CIA paramilitary forces to participate in their Operation Plan 64A, this resulted in the CIA’s foreign paramilitary groups being put under the command of the Department of Defense, a move seen as a slippery slope for the CIA, from covert action towards militarization.

In Vietnam, In August, 1964 the CIA and other organizations and individuals helped fabricate a phony Vietnamese attack on a U.S. Ship, known as “The Gulf of Tonkin” incident and this was used as a pretext for greater U.S. involvement in Vietnam.

For several years under the Johnson and Nixon administrations, The U.S. was bombing Cambodia, in essence it was the same war as Vietnam. President Nixon was openly bombing in preparation for a land assault on Cambodia, which caused major protests in the U.S. against the Vietnam War. There is little awareness today of the the human suffering involved caused from these bombings.

Immense damage was done to the infrastructure, villages, cities of Cambodia, causing many to become refugees and caused internal displacement of the population. This unstable situation enabled Pol Pot leading the Khmer Rouge, a small political party to assume power. The Khmer Rouge is responsible for millions of deaths in Cambodia. This mass killing was made possible by the the U.S. bombing of Cambodia which destabilized the country.

As a consequence, the U.S. bears responsibility not only for the deaths from the direct bombings but also for the deaths caused from the activities of the Khmer Rouge, around 2.5 million people. Even when Vietnam later invaded Cambodia in 1979 the CIA was still supporting the Khmer Rouge.

Church Committee – CIA fake news admission

On December 22, 1974, The New York Times published a lengthy article by Seymour Hersh detailing CIA operations over the years. For the first time, Covert CIA programs involving assassination attempts against foreign leaders and covert attempts to subvert foreign governments were reported in the mainstream press. In addition, the article also discussed efforts by intelligence agencies to collect information on the political activities of all US citizens.

The Church Committee in 1975 and 1976 published fourteen reports on various U.S. intelligence agencies’ formation, operations, and the alleged abuses of law and of power that they had committed, with recommendations for reform. The CIA in 1975 admitted to putting out fake news stories, channeled through a foreign entity to fool the American public.

In more recent times this problem has only increased. For example Jeff Bezos, CEO of has a $600,000,000 contract with the CIA to manage their data in their datacenters. He’s also the owner of the Washington Post, a prominent newspaper. Jeff Bezos is also on the advisory board for Defense Innovation for the Pentagon. This is an obvious conflict of interest. There are also other modern examples of CIA assets embedded within news organizations, such as Anderson Cooper of CNN, and John Brennan (former CIA director) being hired by NBC.

NBC and its subsidiary also hired Jeremy Bash as a national security analyst , who previously served as the chief of staff for both the Pentagon and the CIA.

Also, Michael Hayden, the only person to have served as the director of both the CIA and the National Security Agency, was hired as a CNN national security analyst. Something to keep in mind is that CIA operations in general are not revealed to the public until sometimes decades after the event. CIA operations are commonplace and being conducted on the American people through corporate news media.

In 1998, in an interview with the Parisian publication Le Novel Observateur, Zbigniew Brzezinski, adviser to President Jimmy Carter, admitted that he had been responsible for getting aid to the Mujahadeen (including Osama Bin Laden) in Afghanistan which caused the Soviets to invade. In his own words:

“According to the official version of history, CIA aid to the Mujahadeen began during 1980, that is to say, after the Soviet army invaded Afghanistan on 24 December 1979. But the reality, secretly guarded until now, is completely otherwise. Indeed, it was July 3, 1979 that President Carter signed the first directive for secret aid to the opponents of the pro-Soviet regime in Kabul. And that very day, I wrote a note to the President in which I explained to him that in my opinion this aid was going to induce a Soviet military intervention. ”

Brzezinski justified this by saying that Afghanistan was the Soviet Union’s version of Vietnam and hence caused the breakup of the Soviet Union. “Regret what?” he said. “That secret operation was an excellent idea. It had the effect of drawing the Russians into the Afghan trap and you want me to regret it?”

The CIA had long been nurturing terrorism abroad. In 1986 the CIA established a Counterterrorist Center to deal specifically with the problem of their own creation. At first confronted with secular terrorism, the agency found Islamist terrorism looming increasingly large on its scope after previously funding and arming them.

The CIA has had a countless number of covert operations in Iraq since at least 1958. One of the most eggregious operations was during
the Iraq-Iran War from 1980 to 1988, which claimed around 105,000 lives. A former National Security Council official, Howard Teicher said that the U.S. provided the Iraqis with billions of dollars in agricultural credits as well as providing the Iraqi Military with weapons and technology, including biological agents such as Sarin nerve gas. This surge of help for Iraq from the US came as Iran seemed to be winning the war and was close to Basra. The US wanted both countries to weaken themselves as a result of the war, it wanted the war to remain continuous. This ensured a steady flow of dollars to the military companies as well as private mercenary firms.

The U.S. air assault started on January 17, 1991 and it lasted for 42 days. On February 23 President H.W. Bush (Former director of the CIA himself) ordered the U.S. ground assault to begin. The invasion took place with much needless killing of Iraqi military personnel. Only about 150 American military personnel died compared to about 200,000 Iraqis. Some of the Iraqis were mercilessly killed on the Highway of Death and about 400 tons of depleted uranium were left in that nation by the U.S. still causing damage today through increased cancer rates and birth defects for the Iraqi People.

In October of 2002, 9 months before the US-led invasion of Iraq, under President George W. Bush, the CIA produced a document on Saddam Hussein’s chemical and biological weapons programs. The document became the foundation for the Bush Administration’s public statements about the alleged “weapsons of mass destruction” program. The CIA document was used to support the Bush administration’s assertion that Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction (WMD) program represented an imminent threat to the United States, which became the leading justification for the US-led war. No Weapons of Mass Destruction were found.

Shortly after the 9/11 attacks, The New York Times released an article stating that the CIA’s New York field office was destroyed in the wake of the attacks. While the first responders, military personnel and volunteers were conducting rescue efforts at the World Trade Center site, a CIA team was searching the rubble for both digital and paper copies of classified CIA documents. This was done according to the template put in place after the Iranian takeover of the United States Embassy in Tehran in 1979. All agents present that day fled the building safely.

The CIA insists that those who conducted the attacks on 9/11 were not aware that the agency was operating at World Trade Center building 7 (also known as the Solomon Brothers building), this command center was the headquarters for many notable criminal terrorism investigations. However, the New York field office’s main goals were to monitor and recruit foreign officials stationed at the United Nations. The CIA’s New York branch was damaged by the 9/11 attacks, they were able to get loaned office space from the US Mission to the United Nations and other federal agencies, which ended up working in the CIA’s favor. Before 9/11, the agency received approximately 500 to 600 applications a week, in the months following 9/11 the agency received that number per day.

The involvement of the CIA in the newly initiated “War on Terror” was increased further on September 15, 2001. George W. Bush agreed to adopt a plan proposed by CIA director George Tenet. The plan consisted of conducting a secret war in which CIA paramilitary officers would recruit anti-Taliban guerillas inside Afghanistan. They would later be joined special operations forces teams which would call in precision airstrikes on Taliban and Al Qaeda fighters. This plan was finalized on September 16, 2001 when Bush signed a Memorandum of Notification that allowed the plan to move forward.

We can’t stress this enough. We are only scratching the surface here, this is only the tip of the iceberg involving CIA activities. We need to call these guys out, we have to realize they are playing mind games with the American public and with other nations around the world ever since the creation of the CIA. As American citizens, we should not be getting our news from the Central Intelligence Agency. Many members of the public are not aware that many of the analysts and news personalities they know and love on TV are CIA assets towing the government line and pushing the country further into war.

The current US government under both political parties is corrupt and predatory. The increased scope of the CIA over the decades has happened under the congressional leadership and Presidents from both political parties..Who eagerly exercise their power over all of the people. Both parties have increased the CIA, both parties supported violently overthrowing governments. Both parties continue to do so…both parties are pro war. As citizens we need to resist and challenge this, or eventually the war will find its way home.
